Tan Square

Pre-heat the oven to about 180C. Cream the 150g butter, sugarĀ & vanilla essence.Add the flour and stir through.

Press 3/4 of the mixture into a sponge roll tin which has been greased with butter or oil spray.
Put into saucepan (pot): golden syrup, condensed milk, the 6 tablespoons butter.

Bring to boil over a LOW heat, stirring all the time. Leave it to cool.

Spread over the base mixture in tin. Finally, crumble the rest of the base mixture over the top and bake about 30 mins.

Cut while warm, leaving in tin until cold.

Tan Square - what do you reckon?

  • Terrible recipe - seriously the worst version I have ever tried. in the end i just made it up. you need at least 1 tin of condensed milk... were you trying to make a single piece?

  • I added almond pieces and white and milk chocolate pieces when adding the crumbly layer. Makes it really rich and yummy

  • The girls at work liked it so much last week I am making them another one this week.
I doubled the caramel and put milk choc chips on top as well as the shortbread.
