Chocolate Icing

Chuck your icing sugar and cocoa together into a bowl and dribble in a tiny bit of warm water - like about a tablespoon full. Stir it up.

It needs to be really good and thick if it's going on a cake - if you're tipping it over a square or slice you can relax it a little. If it's hard to stir or not disolving gradually put more water in ... I said GRADUALLY!

Then stir in the butter which helps give it a nice cholcolatey smoothness, like Barry White.

Chocolate Icing - what do you reckon?

  • Hi, cool recipe. I melted the butter, (actually that was an accident) decreased the amount of icing sugar to 1 & 1/4 cup, (that's all I had left in the pantry) and mixed it all together with the cocoa omitting the warm water - it was YUMMY!! I think the melted butter kind of played a role. I would ask my wife but she'll say 'Oh that's how I usually do it' lol - woman...

  • Just a suggestion, if you put the butter in a mug then pour boiling water over it you get melted butter and water. Add that to the dry ingredients until its the right consistency, This makes it easier to judge what thickness it comes out and no lumps of butter.
