Golden Syrup Dumplings

Chuck the flour and salt into a bowl and the chopped butter. Get your hands in a squish the butter and flour together till it's crumbley.

Mix the egg and milk together in a cup or bowl and then stir it into the flour till it makes a dough. It should be quite light and soft. Leave it to one side for aminute.

Put all the  syrupmaterials into a pot with 2 cups of water and warm it all till the sugar has disolved. then bring it to the boil.

Okay - now drop dessertspoon sized globs of the dough into the boiling syrup. Once they're in, put a lid on the pot, turn down the heat and let it simmer away for about 20 minutes.

Whip some cream and go crazy.

Golden Syrup Dumplings - what do you reckon?

  • Mine came out kind of stodgy and solid. Seems great in principle though. Thinking about trying again with a non egg based dough (more like a scone) though maybe it would break up in the boiling process.
