1 Ingredient Ice Cream

1: Blend to Perfection

Add the chunks of frozen banana into the blender bit-by-bit.

At first, the bananas resist the blending. Don't panic.

They'll reach that nice chunky stage that you can use in smoothies. But you're not done yet! Keep that blender running for another 3-4 minutes, and watch in amazement as what you once saw as frozen bananas turn into a rich, creamy, silky blend.

AMAZED!?

2: Enjoy!

For the first go-round, try this recipe as-is.

Thereafter, try adding honey, chocolate syrup, maple syrup, peanut butter, flavored extracts, or additional frozen fruits! Go to town, and make sure you share your favorite remixes in the comments!

  • yeah I've had a bit of trouble figuring out storage for this recipie - I found that if made before dinner, stick it in the freezer until dinner time (~30 mins) then at the beginning of dinner stick it in the fridge (dinner being 30-45 mins). by the time you're ready for the dessert, it's still thick and cold but not solid and inedible.
great tips on the extra ingredients too!

  • I just made this for lunch for me and my twin girls and it was a complete WIN. I added frozen berries to it, but I am keen to try the chocolate syrup, (well because there is only so much healthy we can take right?)

My question is, can I make this ahead of time and keep it in the freezer? I am having a birthday party for the girls in a few weeks and would love to offer this as an alternative to ice cream. Especially since some of their little friends have dairy allergies. or would it be better to just do it just before eating?

  • I do a variation of this recipe by chucking in a teaspoon or so (depending on your preference), of cocoa. Tastes like dark chocolate icecream, only a lot healthier :)
