Beer Bread

Preheat oven to 200C.

Mix dry ingredients together and add beer (add water to make up to 400 mil if necessary) to dry ingredients. Mix well. Tip into well greased loaf tin and sprinkle cheese on top. Bake for 50-60 minutes until golden brown.

Tip out and cool on rack before slicing.

** Note: to make up the liquid I add a water/oil mix. Also - try putting a couple of teaspoons of dried herbs through the flour mixture - bloody beautiful. Steve.

  • Bloody good stuff! I'm recovering from giving birth to our first child and my gorgeous hubby has decided he wants to learn to bake. Sent him a link to this site. The beer bread was really easy apparently and I thought it was tasty. Next time he's going to experiment with beer type maybe use a larger instead of an ale and add parmesan cheese. Its been devoured all the same though!

  • The beer bread was so good we had it toasted the next day.
Just as good if not better. I did it under the grill. Yum!

  • Made another loaf this time using a homebrew stout. Again this was excellent. We also tried to make it in the bread maker but it turned out like one of the Moeraki Boulders Boulders!

  • Made another loaf today with Macs Pale Ale Home Brew and as before it was great with some ham & hot mustard on each slice. Also we are going to try & use a homebrew stout in the next one as well as going to see if we can convert it for a Bread Maker Loaf. Will advise the outcome! Regards Peter.

  • We saw you on the Good Morning Show when you made the beer bread. We had already made the loaf a week before and found it to be great bread, Today we will make another one as my wife Kay also enjoyed my loaf baking efforts. Just a query have you any ideas about bread making recipes using Bread Makers as these are now so popular and easy to use for us lazy blokes.Regards Peter A.
